What is a GSM Intercom?
It's a wireless intercom with no range restrictions. It contains a normal mobile phone SIM card and is programmed by SMS text message with preset phone numbers. It calls you on the phones of your choice as set, so when a Visitor press's the call button at your front door or gate it calls you. You answer the call as you would with any normal phone call and can open a gate, barrier or door from your phone keypad. With Caller ID on your phone, you will always know its the intercom calling.
Which SIM cards will it work with?
Any network on any type of plan. SimEntry supply a free PAYG SIM (UK Customers only) on Vodafone, 02 or T-Mobile (and soon Tesco Mobile, Orange & Lebara) however you can use any PAYG or contract SIM you like. The system will not work on 3G only SIM cards or SIM cards in parts of the USA which only offer 850Mhz. If you are in the USA, please check your local Network Operator offers the tri-band frequencies of 900, 1800 or 1900Mhz before purchasing.
What if I'm not available when the GSM intercom calls?
The
system
can be preset to call multiple numbers to be sure someone always
answers. The G2 allows trip over to 5 numbers. The Z4 offers 10 numbers. The same number can be dialed multiple times ensuring your phone keeps ringing but it cuts off and tries again before voicemail picks up.
How much does it cost to use?
The
average intercom call is around 20 seconds. Each call is just a few
pence and you can limit the length of the call time call to prevent any
extra charges. Many SIM cards have special offers when calling the same network so it's usually best to use the same SIM as you usual phone. If you check the SIM card offers before you choose, you may even get free or cheap calls to some numbers if they are on the same network. For example, Tesco Mobile (uses the 02 UK network) offers half price calls (10p / min) to 5 favourite numbers. You can limit the intercom call time so you know the call won't cost more than 1 minute.
